  • For the meatballs:

  • 1
    onion
  • 2
    eggs
  • 800 g
    mince meat (pork/beef)
  • 100 g
    breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp
    mustard
  • 2 tbsp
    ghee (or clarified butter)
  • For the mushroom sauce:

  • 300 g
    mushrooms
  • 1
    onion
  • 2 tbsp
    butter
  • 1 tbsp
    flour
  • 2 tbsp
    soy sauce
  • 400 ml
    beef stock

For the meatballs, peel and finely chop the onion. Place in a bowl with all the other ingredients with the Meatball Seasoning except for the clarified butter or ghee, knead together and form into 8 meatballs. Place in the fridge to chill.

For the mushroom sauce, clean and slice the mushrooms. Peel and finely dice the onion.

Heat the butter in a pan and fry the mushrooms and onions over a high heat for about 5 minutes. Dust with flour, then add the soy sauce and beef stock and allow to simmer for 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Heat the clarified butter or ghee in a cast-iron pan and fry the meatballs on both sides over a high heat for about 4 minutes until browned. Place the pan in the oven and cook for another 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven, add the mushroom sauce to the pan and simmer for another 10 minutes.

Serve the cooked meatballs in the mushroom sauce over rice or mashed potato to soak up the lovely gravy!
